Serenbe, Serenbe, Serenbe

What an amazing place. Several EcoBrokers from our office took a field trip down to Serenbe yesterday. They are truly making it happen down there. Serenbe is a community 40 minutes south of Atlanta that on Saturday will become the greenest city in America. Serenbe is comprised of 900 acres in the middle of the Chattahoochee Hill Country, more than 40,000 acres of protected land that calls for 80% to remain in it's natural state. All of the homes built in Serenbe are required to meet EarthCraft guidelines focusing on energy efficiency, enhanced air quality & water conservation. Instead of a traditional sewer system, Serenbe has a biological waste water treatment system that returns the water to the land. Steve Nygren, who began this adventure said their homes use 25% of the average water used in Atlanta homes. Also included on the property is the Inn at Serenbe, an organic farm, grocery store, antique store, art school, cooking school, Montessori School, three restaurants & several other businesses. The community was designed to be foot friendly. Instead of driving into your garage, in most cases your parking is in front of your house. Instead of a traditional mailbox, you pick it up in town next to the coffee shop. Instead of driving to town to your office, you might live in a condo or townhouse above your shop or business. So are people buying into this? Absolutely, they have constructed 100 homes so far, 95 of them are sold. By the end, the plans call for 1200 homes to be built. If you are looking for a place close to Atlanta but further away than anything you have seen east of the Mississippi, this is the place for you. I would love to tell you more if you are interested.
